About Us

Semaphore is a not-for-profit publication run by a skeleton staff on volunteer time. That is, we generally find working on it a good way to procrastinate from our various other duties, and then fail to pay ourselves for the pleasure.

This magazine was started by current Editor Marie Hodgkinson on something of a whim in late August, 2007. She has since fooled two of her friends, Tabitha Polson and Freyja van Alphen-Fyfe, into sharing the workload, and isn't likely to let them escape in the foreseeable future.

If you would like to support Semaphore, there are a few things you can do. Easiest, perhaps, would be to click the button below and donate a few dollars to the magazine, to be put in the pot for paying our writers. But you can also help us immensely by spreading the word, telling people about us and urging (encouraging, inviting, blackmailing) them to come and have a look, whether they're readers, writers, or both.
